Design Planning Group Home Page

Welcome to the Design Planning Group Home Page.

Background

The Chelmer Residents Forum were asked whether they were interested in forming a small residents group to work alongside and advise the development directorate of CHP on issues around design within the new building programme.

A small group has started working on this and have been looking at plans and details of future development and making recommendations from a tenant's perspective. One member was able to visit a site and see the handover of 2 new two-bedroom homes, which have now been let to families.

We now plan to develop the group further, providing training and adding some new members. At this point in time, the team are working with CHP to set the remit and responsibilities of the group.

New Homes Design Panel for CHP Residents
CHP has launched its Resident Design Advisory Panel (RDAP), an initiative which allows tenants to influence housing design. The panel – which will focus on the design of CHP’s new build, and existing, properties – will conduct surveys to assess residents housing requirements, examine the suitability of the properties design, and the cost of home ownership. RDAP, which guarantees CHP’s commitment to providing a wide range of housing types and tenures, ensures the company’s new build homes meet the evolving needs of Essex residents. Having already inputted into CHP’s new Design and Construction Brief, RDAP has conducted a review of several scheme designs and has visited development sites prior to handover.

Peter Coleing, Tenant Participation Advisory Service (TPAS) Chairman and RDAP member, commented: “From the resident’s perspective the launch of RDAP has been a very positive experience. It underlines that CHP are not simply talking about importance of resident involvement; the company is actively placing it at the heart of its activities with real commitment.
“The Tenant Services Authority’s (TSA) goal is to raise the standard of services for residents – and by placing them at the heart of good design through RDAP, CHP are demonstrating that they are firmly committed to this objective.”
